Joe Lowden Marathon Runner

This being the year of my 60th birthday and 14th Great North Run, I had taken the decision that this would be my last half marathon. The runs were getting harder and the pain in my knee and lower back were lasting longer after each run.

It was in April of this year that I was offered the opportunity to wear a prototype performance enhancing mouthguard – my son had seen this technology in action and was sure it would help me. With nothing to lose I agreed.

I travelled to London, was linked up to muscle analysis, computerized jaw tracking, nerve stimulation and posture analysis. The perfect position for my jaw was located with all of the supporting muscles of the neck, shoulders and back in relaxed harmony.

Approximately two weeks later I received my mouthguard with a great deal of scepticism. I keep an accurate log of all my runs (i.e. how I felt during the run and the time taken).
